How it all started...

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Amanda Kay Deese Hunt, and I am a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. I am also the owner and creator of my small business, Southern Jewelz Co, which I established in March 2015.

My work centers around creating handmade Indigenous pieces, including beadwork accessories, polymer clay designs, car charms, fabric wristlets, and more. What began as a simple desire to learn beadwork in 2015 turned into a journey of growth and passion. With limited resources, I taught myself the art of beading, starting with earrings and gradually expanding into a wide variety of pieces such as graduation caps, necklaces, bolos, badge reels, shoes, hair barrettes, rings, pins, and more.

In 2021, I added polymer clay to my craft and quickly fell in love with its versatility and therapeutic nature. This medium opened the door to even more creative expression, allowing me to design everything from earrings to bolo pieces. Over time, I have continued to grow my business by incorporating additional handmade items, including fabric wristlets, each carefully sewn and crafted by hand.

In 2025, I married my wonderful husband Jamie, who has since become an important part of Southern Jewelz Co. His support, encouragement, and hands-on involvement have been a true blessing. Whether it’s helping behind the scenes, assisting at events, or bringing fresh ideas and strength to the business, he has played a vital role in helping me continue to grow and pursue this passion.

I am currently in the process of expanding my product line even further and look forward to sharing these new creations when the time is right.
